Project data is accessible via three different methods: the projects portal, the public dashboard and the data API. The projects portal provides tools for controlling access via each of those methods.
Portal Access
Using the projects portal is the only way to modify any project settings or other data. Any user with access to the project through the project portal can modify security settings, so be careful about who is granted portal access.
To grant access to the projects portal:
-
Log in to the portal.
-
Go to the "settings" page for the project.
-
In the "security" section, click on "add a project user".
-
In the "add project user" window, enter the email address for the user being added. The email must be for a user with a WattMetrics services account. Check the "grant administrative access" check box. Click the "add" button.
-
Changes to security settings can take up to 15 minutes to take effect.
To revoke access to the projects portal:
Public Dashboard Access
By default, the public dashboard for a project is visible to anyone. In order to require a password before showing the public dashboard, follow the steps below.
If a project dashboard is password protected, the project will not be listed in the "live projects" section of the WattMetrics website.
To password-protect access to the public dashboard:
-
Log in to the portal.
-
Go to the "settings" page for the project.
-
In the "security" section, check the box next to where it says "require login for all project data".
-
Click on "add a project user".
-
In the "add project user" window, enter the email address for the user being added. The email must be for a user with a WattMetrics services account. Do NOT check the "grant administrative access" check box. Click the "add" button.
-
Changes to security settings can take up to 15 minutes to take effect.
Data API Access
All access to project data via WattMetrics data API requires a security token. All communications with the API are encrypted via SSL. Access to project data via the API is strictly read-only.
The API is currently in public beta and tools for managing API security tokens are not yet available. Please contact WattMetrics if you would like to participate in the beta period.
